Sparks
At tot shabbat Rabbi Susan told us that we all have sparks of godliness in us. The sparks are inside of us all and connect us to God and to each other and help us to love and be good people. Andy started looking for the sparks on the ground and then started crying because he couldn't find the sparks. I told him the sparks were inside of him but he said that they were not inside of him. After tot shabbat was over Andy said he wanted to go to the big room where mommy and daddy got married. So we went to the sanctuary for the adult service. I told Rabbi Susan that Andy was upset so she came over and talked to us while the musicians were warming up. When Rabbi Susan walked over Andy said "Rabbi Susan I can't find my sparks". Rabbi Susan said they were inside of him and he insisted that they weren't. He asked if they were in the music or on the ground or in the fire at Momo and Baba's house. Rabbi Susan said no, they were inside of him. Rabbi Susan told Andy she knew him when he was still in my tummy and she touched my tummy and could feel his sparks. She told him she held him when he was first born and could see his sparks. Andy was still not convinced because he could not see them. Rabbi Susan told Andy to look into my eyes and asked him if he could see the sparks of love that I have for him. He said yes. Then Rabbi Susan and I looked into Andy's eyes and saw his sparks of love for us. Then Andy said "I found the sparks. They are inside of me". Rabbi Susan delayed the whole service until Andy found his sparks. Then Rabbi Susan told the story of Andy and his sparks for her sermon. She told the congregation that Andy, the littlest member in the room can help us all with our struggle to understand and connect with God. She talked about how hard it is to believe in something we can't see with our own eyes.
